Northwest Youth Corps’ (NYC) Twin Rivers Charter School (TRCS) is an accredited charter high school for youth, ages 14-19, who learn best in an experiential format and who may have had difficulty succeeding in a traditional school environment. TRCS employs a cooperative, team-based format, in which staff engage students in hands-on learning that combines classroom instruction with the completion of conservation projects, field study assignments, and outdoor recreation activities.
The Outdoor Educator/Youth Development Specialist AmeriCorps internship is both highly demanding and highly rewarding working with high school students identified as at risk of academic failure and/or present behavioral challenges. Outdoor Educator/Youth Development Specialists spend most of their time in direct contact with students, either doing direct student instruction in small groups in a classroom setting, providing environmental education in the field, or facilitating conservation-based, service-learning projects.
